Mueller Water is seeking a skilled Welder/Pipefitter to perform welding and pipefitting work in various water system construction and maintenance activities. This role includes leading a small work crew and performing related duties as required. The Welder/Pipefitter position is a journey-level role within the welding pipefitting series and reports to the Plant Supervisor.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Provide courteous and efficient customer service to company staff.
- Maintain a positive attitude towards company goals.
- Operate acetylene and electrical welding equipment.
- Install water lines and construct pipe angles and fittings as required.
- Read blueprints to determine the layout of metal fabrications.
- Weld steel pipes and fit equipment on water systems.
- Requisition materials as needed.
- Operate light tractors and medium trucks, forklifts, and craneways.
- Use tools such as drill presses, grinders, metal saws, wrenches, jacks, chisels, vice grips, jigs, hydraulic presses, and metal shears.
- Perform brazing of metals and weld stainless steel.
- Fabricate pipe and skids from templates or from blueprints.
- Plan projects involving multiple trades.
- Weld and fit pipes in a fabrication plant or jobsite environment.
- Ensure safety precautions are observed in the shop and field.
- Drive a truck with welding equipment to job sites.
- Direct the work of assigned helpers.
- Wear and operate respiratory protective equipment, including SCBA.
- Maintain labor and material records.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Five (5) years of journey-level welding experience with knowledge of water distribution and transmission pipelines.
- Possession of a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license upon application. Out-of-state applicants must obtain a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license within ten (10) days of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with oxyacetylene gas welding procedures and methods.
- Knowledge of electrical welding procedures and methods.
- Understanding of types of metal and their characteristics in welding.
- Ability to perform MIG, TIG, and STICK welding of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Experience in plasma cutting, welding, fabricating, and working with various metals.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform shop math related to the welding trade.
- Experience operating a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues.
- Ability to perform manual work, welding, and pipefitting under all weather conditions.
- Physical capability to enter permit-required confined spaces and wear SCBA equipment.
- Ability to operate an atmospheric tester for entry into confined spaces.
- Proficiency in wearing protective respiratory equipment, including SCBA and personal escape respirators.
Special Requirements:
- Must be clean-shaven or have trimmed facial hair to properly use personal respirators.
- Must pass a respirator medical exam and be physically able to wear respirator equipment.
- Must be able to work in enclosed spaces while wearing protective clothing under extreme temperatures and hazardous environments.

- Frequently need to stand, stoop, walk, crawl, climb, and perform other similar actions during the workday.
- Sufficient mobility to work in a field setting under varying weather conditions, operate hand tools and mechanical/motorized equipment, transport materials and supplies
